BITD Henderson FabTech Desert Classic

Anticipation.
We were looking forward to this event but were disappointed with Best In The Desert's decision to blade 90% of the race course. We arrived early on Saturday morning while the first group of race vehicles were in staging. It's always a crap shoot when going out to Jean / Primm for a desert race so early in the morning because of the possibility of an inversion, no wind, and overcast days; you never know what to expect on the dry lakes.

Arrival.
We arrived with an inversion over the area and no wind. The course was bladed flat. Bladed flat was all the action we had seen over the last couple of years. It was a difficult task to find a spot where we could squeak out an ounce of action but found a spot where the very light breeze was funneling through a section of course clearing out the dust as cars went racing past us. This wasn't the case for so much of the course. We observed the dust hanging in the air all over the course.Safe Shot.
We decided to leave and catch just a few silt shots from a turn; seems to be the "safe" shot when your on the way to getting skunked in the action department. From the safe shot we moved to what everyone knows as the rock garden. This area is certainly known to produce some of the best action of cars and trucks getting upset.

Rock Me Baby.
Ah. This was bladed flat. I was thinking at this moment we would have been better off staying home sleeping in late. It was shocking to see the course in such "good" shape. I prefer it destroyed. It took an ass load of time to blade the rock garden. This IS desert racing right?

Now that I'm done bitching, it really wasn't that bad as we know the course; hell everyone knows that course. Managed to find some action, grab a few good shots, and have a good time out in the desert. It was a long day and we would probably do it again even if it was bladed.

we will.
