Red Loses The Beard!

It was an amazing adventure from start to finish for the Class 5/1600 car of Art Savedra and his AGS Racing Team. Waiting at mile 1226.77 for the vehicle to arrive you could feel the sense of urgency as the team was running out of time. They had to cross Check 10 before 4 P.M. before it closed.

At 3:39 p.m. the race vehicle arrived at the road crossing and like something out of NASCAR the driver change took place and Red was on his way to the finish line. We all loaded up in the chase rigs and raced ahead to Cabo San Lucas. Watching the amazing sunset I wondered if the guys would make the last few miles of the Baja 1000. The team had overcome so many obstacles to get to this point.

Arriving at the soccer fields in Cabo we got word that the vehicle got a flat 10 miles from the finish. The debate was on. Should Red lose his beard? What did he really say at the tree bar in Primm, Nevada during the Primm 300. Cross the finish line in time? or just cross the finish line?

At 5:20 p.m. the vehicle timed out. From out of the darkness, the class 5 vehicle made it's way up the bank of the wash and onto the mesa where it crossed the finish line at 9:24 P.M. Red took the checker flag and completed the 1296.39 mile journey of the 2007 SCORE Baja 1000!
