Aftershock

The SCORE Terrible's Primm 300 is in the books for 2007. The off road community suffered a loss on Saturday, September 8 with the passing of Eric Morales of Ensenada, Mexico. Morales, a co-rider, went end over end in the Class 1 vehicle at the start of the race. This is the second fatality the racing community has suffered in the last couple of months. August 24, 2007 Brandon Smith fell victim to the desert when he crashed his motorcycle around mile 350 during the Best In The Desert TSCO Vegas To Reno. Our condolences to the families that have lost loved ones in this inherently dangerous sport.

"It was not just the extemely slow speed limit on Night Ranch Road, but the BLM would not allow licensed and badged media to park off the road, away from traffic, but not on top of turtles, and walk to the course!!! Any other day of the year, anyone can come, drive 90 miles an hour, park anywhere, and shoot unlimited shotgun shells into tvs, bottles, etc., etc, and leave them there -- why doesn't the BLM leave us alone and go after the dezert hillbillies?" ~posted by Wicked Gravity Video

They are going after the hillbillies. In all fairness, we contacted the BLM and asked about the parking and was informed that SCORE had made the decision to only allow the media to park in the pits and walk. This was a SCORE decision and not the BLM. Only on this day, the day of the race that "concerned citizens" are worried about illegal shooting, trash, turtles, and a speed limit. I wonder what Wicked Gravity Video has done other than bitch about not having access, which by the way was the decision of SCORE. I wonder if anyone stopped and picked up any trash, shotgun shells on the way out? Probably not because it is easier to bitch than to do something about it.

Race organizations like SNORE have gone out and restored, cleaned, and helped the BLM. Volunteering their time to make the sport better. I can't say that I have ever heard of anyone else in the racing community volunteering to do a desert cleanup or volunteer to do something good for our public land. If you don't like what you see, do something about it, bitching obviously doesn't work. We have witnessed Casey Folks of Best In The Desert picking up trash at his events after all the racers have gone home. Way to go Casey!

The 25 mph speed limit comes from the Clark County Multiple Species Habitat Conservation Plan. http://www.accessclarkcounty.com/daqem/epd/desert/pdf/dcpreports/LENAFINAL.pdf
Table 1 page 13 is a good place to start for those wishing to become a little more educated on the subject of why 25 mph. From what we found out, most of the "rules" are either from U.S. Fish and Wildlife, Clark County, or some other entity. BLM is the messenger, the enforcers of such rules. I have heard the saying "don't shoot the messenger" and it seems the messenger always has a bullseye in the public eye.

We are looking forward to the Best In The Desert 300 where we got word there will be a new 8100 class vehicle making it's debut. We always love seeing hummers and we can't wait.
