Pro1600 Shootout - brrrrrrrrr!

Chilly night at tech and contingency. The course looks "almost" the same as the Battle at Primm course with a few tweaks in the format. A dog leg turn across the pavement unlike the BAP course where it was a straight shot across the pavement. Bring the extra pair of socks....I know I am. Weather Underground is forecasting a cloudy, chilly day tomorrow.

Contact: Appleget Associates - pressinfo@applegettwo.com

2008 Motorsports Photography Workshop Schedule Announced

The David Allio Motorsports Photography Workshop schedule for 2008 includes two different programs at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and one at the Hickory Motor Speedway. Photography enthusiasts may participate in intensive immersion programs of short track oval photography, drag racing photography, and for the first time superspeedway photography.

Each two-day motorsports photography workshop program includes technical instruction in actual trackside racing environments, plus valuable information regarding copyright, image licensing and sales, professional conduct, getting published, and marketing. The goal of each program is to allow participants learn more to earn more.

"As these motorsports photography workshops have grown in content and popularity, we have put significant emphasis on providing participants with real working environments," Allio said. "Adding superspeedway photography, for the first time, to the overall curriculum compliments the unique experience provided by these workshops. The race tracks are our classroom."

Workshop instructor, David Allio has been a working professional motorsports photographer since 1974. He is a member of both Canon and Nikon Professional Services. During his 33-year award-winning career, Allio photographs have appeared in the pages and on the cover of nearly every sports publication in the world. Recent publication credits outside of the mainstream motorsports media include a “trifecta” of Sports Illustrated, ESPN Magazine, and The Sporting News all in the same month, USA Today, and the book "ESPN Ultimate NASCAR 100 Defining Moments in Stock Car Racing History."

Participation in each photography workshop is limited to allow for more individual attention. Questions are encouraged. Advance registration is required. Participants may find more information and register online at: www.DavidAllio.com.

Sponsors for the 2008 David Allio Motorsports Photography Workshops include: Richard Petty Driving Experience, Las Vegas Trade Show Guide, Think Tank Photo, Nikon, Goodyear, SummitRacing.com, Dragracecentral.com, www.ChasinRacin.com, Roberts Camera, Appleget Associates, Hickory Motor Speedway, and Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Red Loses The Beard!

Photos:Copyright 2007 Acceler8ing.com. All rights Reserved

It was an amazing adventure from start to finish for the Class 5/1600 car of Art Savedra and his AGS Racing Team. Waiting at mile 1226.77 for the vehicle to arrive you could feel the sense of urgency as the team was running out of time. They had to cross Check 10 before 4 P.M. before it closed.

At 3:39 p.m. the race vehicle arrived at the road crossing and like something out of NASCAR the driver change took place and Red was on his way to the finish line. We all loaded up in the chase rigs and raced ahead to Cabo San Lucas. Watching the amazing sunset I wondered if the guys would make the last few miles of the Baja 1000. The team had overcome so many obstacles to get to this point.

Arriving at the soccer fields in Cabo we got word that the vehicle got a flat 10 miles from the finish. The debate was on. Should Red lose his beard? What did he really say at the tree bar in Primm, Nevada during the Primm 300. Cross the finish line in time? or just cross the finish line?

At 5:20 p.m. the vehicle timed out. From out of the darkness, the class 5 vehicle made it's way up the bank of the wash and onto the mesa where it crossed the finish line at 9:24 P.M. Red took the checker flag and completed the 1296.39 mile journey of the 2007 SCORE Baja 1000!

Once again, the Time Trials on Thursday afternoon.

4) The race course will be different than most other Best In The Desert event in several ways:

1. As always, safety for everyone is the number one concern of Best In The Desert. To make sure the Las Vegas “300” course layout will be safe, we have gone to a great deal of extra work and expense.

2. The Car & Truck racecourse will be three times around an approximately eighty (80) mile loop with one (1) main pit and one (2) alternate pits.

3. The Motorcycle/Quad/UTV racecourse will be four times around an approximately sixty mile (60) mile loop, with a GP Finish, and with a separate Main Pit from the CT Pit and one Alternate Pit. All Alternate Pits are all very easy to get to!

5) Race support – Very easy to Pit!!! However, by order of the BLM the support crews stationed at all of the alternate pits for both Motorcycles/Quads/UTV’s and Cars/Trucks, will have to stay at their assigned pit. More regarding the pitting in further information bulletins. A Special Access Pit Pass WILL BE required for ALL pits. If your support truck leaves any of the Alternate Pits, it will NOT be allowed back in to the pit. There will be a special access pit pass for each alternate pit. All alternate pits are very easy to get to. There will NO “Mandatory Stop” Paved Road Crossings on either racecourse.

6) There will be a one (1) time only Friday early morning, October 5, 2006, Pre-Fun Run for Cars & Trucks ONLY on the CT course. We WILL NOT be pre-running the Motorcycle/Quad/UTV loop. You must have an entry form in with Best In The Desert with a $200 paid deposit to go on the Car/Truck Pre-Fun Run.

7) Anyone attending the C/T Pre-Fun Run must arrive one (1) hour early at the Start Line area to sign the insurance release forms and get a decal for the C/T Pre-Fun Run. Race Vehicles are ok to run in the Pre-Fun Run. BLM Rangers will be at the Pre Run, you must have a pre-fun run decal.

8) Car and Truck Pre-Fun Run note: There will be a pre-fun run registration on Thursday night at Buffalo Bills from 5-7pm and again on Friday morning, at the Start line at 6:00 AM. You must be an official entry in the race, pay $200 deposit, and sign your release forms. We will only allow you to leave on the pre-run up to 7:30 am, you will not be able to leave the course after 7:30 AM, NO EXCEPTIONS by order of the BLM, be on time! No additional pre-runners (i.e. no friends prerunners) will be allowed to pre-run, only people racing, we are limited on time and want to limit the amount of vehicles that run the course.

9) The Spectating Areas have been addressed by the BLM and the BLM will allow ONE (1) Spectating Area for the CT course and ONE (1) spectating area for the MC/Q course. These will be the ONLY two areas where spectating will be allowed WITHOUT a pit pass required.

10) Enclosed in this packet is a 2008 Schedule of Events and the 2008 Hotel Reference Guide. We strongly suggest you make your hotel reservations for the 2008 racing year now. The Town that sells out quickly is Parker and the pre-fun run hotels. Call today and book for the 2008 racing season!!!!!!

Aftershock

The SCORE Terrible's Primm 300 is in the books for 2007. The off road community suffered a loss on Saturday, September 8 with the passing of Eric Morales of Ensenada, Mexico. Morales, a co-rider, went end over end in the Class 1 vehicle at the start of the race. This is the second fatality the racing community has suffered in the last couple of months. August 24, 2007 Brandon Smith fell victim to the desert when he crashed his motorcycle around mile 350 during the Best In The Desert TSCO Vegas To Reno. Our condolences to the families that have lost loved ones in this inherently dangerous sport.

"It was not just the extemely slow speed limit on Night Ranch Road, but the BLM would not allow licensed and badged media to park off the road, away from traffic, but not on top of turtles, and walk to the course!!! Any other day of the year, anyone can come, drive 90 miles an hour, park anywhere, and shoot unlimited shotgun shells into tvs, bottles, etc., etc, and leave them there -- why doesn't the BLM leave us alone and go after the dezert hillbillies?" ~posted by Wicked Gravity Video

They are going after the hillbillies. In all fairness, we contacted the BLM and asked about the parking and was informed that SCORE had made the decision to only allow the media to park in the pits and walk. This was a SCORE decision and not the BLM. Only on this day, the day of the race that "concerned citizens" are worried about illegal shooting, trash, turtles, and a speed limit. I wonder what Wicked Gravity Video has done other than bitch about not having access, which by the way was the decision of SCORE. I wonder if anyone stopped and picked up any trash, shotgun shells on the way out? Probably not because it is easier to bitch than to do something about it.

Race organizations like SNORE have gone out and restored, cleaned, and helped the BLM. Volunteering their time to make the sport better. I can't say that I have ever heard of anyone else in the racing community volunteering to do a desert cleanup or volunteer to do something good for our public land. If you don't like what you see, do something about it, bitching obviously doesn't work. We have witnessed Casey Folks of Best In The Desert picking up trash at his events after all the racers have gone home. Way to go Casey!

The 25 mph speed limit comes from the Clark County Multiple Species Habitat Conservation Plan. http://www.accessclarkcounty.com/daqem/epd/desert/pdf/dcpreports/LENAFINAL.pdf
Table 1 page 13 is a good place to start for those wishing to become a little more educated on the subject of why 25 mph. From what we found out, most of the "rules" are either from U.S. Fish and Wildlife, Clark County, or some other entity. BLM is the messenger, the enforcers of such rules. I have heard the saying "don't shoot the messenger" and it seems the messenger always has a bullseye in the public eye.

We are looking forward to the Best In The Desert 300 where we got word there will be a new 8100 class vehicle making it's debut. We always love seeing hummers and we can't wait.

During the early afternoon start of the second portion of the desert race, which is part of the Los Angeles-based SCORE International desert racing series, the No. 115 race car came down hard in a bumpy section entering the first turn after the start, rolling end over end several times.

SCORE Medical personnel were on the accident immediately and provided CPR for 20 minutes until a trauma physician at the University of Medical Center in Las Vegas pronounced Mr. Morales dead at the scene.

Gonzalez, who complained of lower back pain, was transported to UMC and later released.

“This is an extremely unfortunate incident and our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Mr. Morales,” said Sal Fish, President of the Los Angeles-based SCORE International desert racing organization.

A total of 182 cars and trucks are competing the Round 5 of the six-race 2007 SCORE Desert Series.
